Biofeedback is a well researched and effective way of gaining better control of our bodies processess to increase relaxation, relieve pain and develop more comfortable life patterns.
Biofeedback gives us information about ourselves by using non-invasive instruments. We measure various physiological processes as they occur (pulse rate, skin temperature etc.). The information is displayed on a computer screen and audio tones go up and down to reflect changes as they occur in the body.
Biofeedback is designed to make us intentionally aware of our various body systems so that we can learn to control them to reduce stress and to increase overall health.
Biofeedback is not a treatment in itself; rather it is an educational process for learning specialised mind and body skills. Learning to recognise physiological responses as they occur - and then to alter them consciously - is the goal of biofeedback. It does, of course, require practice and committment. Biofeedback is an ideal example of the old adage, "you get out what you put in".
There are a number of different physiological measurements that we can take:
Neurofeedback, or more properly EEG Biofeedback, is based on the brains electrical activity and is recorded using an EEG (electroencephalogram). It is a painless and non-invasive method which helps people to improve attention and concentration, reduce impulsivity and to control hyperactive behaviours. Put simply, EEG biofeedback trains the brain to regulate and adjust itself to function more efficiently.
EEG biofeedback typically consists of three components:
EEG biofeedback sessions involve watching computer generated graphics or a favourite DVD / CD and using these familiar items to reward attention. We use the Vilistus EEG biofeedback system and, unique amongst biofeedback practitioners, can supply the same equipment for home training as we use in our clinic.
Neuro lingistic Programming (NLP)
Neuro Linguistic Programming covers the three most influential components in producing experience; neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how the body functions, language determines how we interact with people and programming determines what we do in those interactions.
NLP was designed as a pragmatic method that works with a number of time-tested techniques to alter our limiting programming (phobias, limiting beliefs and fears) bhaviours and to allow us to break free of the limiting beliefs of the past.
NLP can help you:
We're often asked Hypnotherapy is like stage hypnosis. The answer is NO! Stage hypnosis (or what you see on TV or read in the papers) is designed to entertain. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is designed to bring about positive change and, this is the important point, the client is always in control. Hypnotherapy is a technique that uses some hypnosis to bring about a relaxed and open state of mind or "altered state of consciousness" and we've found that the more intelligent the client, the more likely a postive outcome from the session.
Chronic Pain Therapy
is changing what we know about pain and how to relieve it, repair our body systems and preventing its return.
Chronic pain persists where the body keeps sending pain signals into the nervous system for weeks, month, even years, after the healing process from a an accident or injury is complete. There may be pain caused by arthritis or other medical condition and people continue to experience pain even when there is no evidence of body damage. Whatever the cause is, it's real, unremitting and demoralising for the sufferer. Our Chronic pain remedy will help you banish pain altogether - or your money back.
Weight Loss and smoking cessation Whatever the original cause of weight gain or smoking, you may now be in a position to want to change. Please note, however, that "wanting" to change is different from "needing" to change. You may feel you need to lose weight or stop smoking but if you don't want to then we won't be able to help you.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy
CST is a subtle and profound healing form.
In a typical craniosacral session, you will usually lie (or sometimes sit) fully-clothed on a treatment couch. The therapist will begin by placing their hands lightly on your body.
The first thing you'll probably notice is a sense of deep relaxation which will generally last thoughout the session. This release of tension oftens extends beyond the session into everyday life.
Sometimes the benefits are not immediately apparent but will become obvious on returning to a familiar envionment.
Craniosacral therapy is a non-directive, non-analytical approach to healing, essentially the art of listening and enabling the body to heal itself. It's a very safe method and, while it helps for the client to have an open mind, the benefits of craniosacral therapy and not dependent on faith in the treatment.
The Feldenkrais Method
The fledenkrais method is a holistic body-centred approach that aims to improve movement, reduce pain and promote general well-being. The Fledenkrais method uses two very different techniques:
Awareness through movement (ATM) where people engage in precisely structured movements that involve thinking, sensing, moving and imagining. Each lesson consistes of comfortable, easy, movements that gradually evolve into movements or greater range or complexity. ATM lessons attempt to make the client aware of his or her habitual neuromuscular patterms and rigidites and to expand options for deliberately choosing new ways of moving.
Functional integration lessons (FI's) involve a trained practitioner, or teacher, using his or her hands to guide the movement of a single client who may be sitting, lying or standing (fully clothed). The practitioner uses this hands-on technique to help the student experience the connections between different parts of the body. Through this, the student learns how to eliminate excess effort and thus more freely and easily. Lessons may be specific in addressing particular issues or can be more global in scope. While the Feldenkrais method does not aim to eliminate pain or cure physical conditions, chronic muscle pain caused by excess effort in movement may be relieved.
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is the use or red and near infra-red light over injuries or lesions to improve soft tissue and wound healing, reduce imflammation and give relief to both acute and chronic pain. The light produced in LLLT can be produced by a laser or high-intensity LED's, however it's not like a surgical laser as there is no heating effect.
The effects of LLLT are photo-chemical and when the correct intensity and treatment times are used, it improves cell metabolism and reduces inflammation. These effects are enhanced with pulses (similar to TENS machines) to boost overall effectiveness.
Low level Laser Therapy is popularly used for soft tissue injuries, joint conditions neuropathic pain, non-healing leg and pressure ulcers.
Low Level laser Therapy works in two ways:
This therapy has been used for many years for sports injuries, arthritic joints, back and neck pain as well as non-healing wounds (pressure soles, foot ulcers etc.) and several trials have shown a siginificant reduction in healing time and pain for these conditions.
